Village youth club re-opens

From the Gazette & Herald, first published Thursday 2nd Sep 2004.

GAZETTE & HERALD: A YOUTH club is re-opening in Kington St Michael on Tuesday following residents' concerns that there was not enough for teenagers to do in the village.

Young people aged from 11 to 18 will be able to enjoy pool, darts, television and computer games at the new club which will be based at the village hall.

Villager Linda Durno who is involved in the project said: "We felt there was absolutely nothing for young people over 11 years-old.

"Kington St Michael is a very active village, so re-opening the youth club is a very positive thing and everyone is very keen to get it set up."

Youth leaders are hoping to get more equipment including an air hockey table.

They also want to take the young people on trips like ice skating and swimming at least once a month.

The first sessions will be free of charge then young people will be asked to pay a £1 entrance fee and a year's membership subscription of £5, or £7.50 for a family.
