From the Salisbury Journal, first published Wednesday 29th Oct 2003.
Tremor nightclub is the phoenix risen from the ashes of Salisbury's departed Po Na Na. Jill Harding met the crew who can't wait to shake up the city's nightlife.
IN recent years the clubs of Endless Street have undergone more quick changes than a group of girls before a big night out.
Out went Churchill's, in came Gosh which was swapped for Po Na Na and finally exchanged for the latest addition to the city's club scene, Tremor.
Run by former Po Na Na employees Claire Green and James Davies, Tremor hopes to shake up Salisbury's nightlife.
Downstairs is taken over by hip hop and Rn'B while dancers on the floor above can go mad for it with a mix of funky house, trance and club classics.
Guest DJs, both local and from further afield, will be taking to the decks alongside the club's promoter and resident, Darren Kidd.
"We did some research and found that people really wanted more Rn'B and dance music," said Claire.
"We know The Chapel is our main rival so we're trying to offer something different."
After a frantic five month refit, Tremor had its opening on Friday night with well over 300 clubbers keen to see if the Earth would move.
"It was manic getting everything ready but we made it and Friday was a great night," said Claire.
"Basically we had to rip everything out and start again.
"Po Na Na had a Moroccan feel and we wanted something a lot lighter and minimalist.
"We gutted the whole place and brought in completely new furnishings and décor."
The team have installed new laser lighting and sound systems and say they have hand picked the best DJ talent.
"We advertised and got a load of demo tapes through," said Claire.
"Quality was very important to us and we'll have some great local talent as well as bigger names."
The bar serves all the usual favourites for around £3 and there is a large cocktail menu starting at £6.
As the club develops Claire plans to hold special promotion nights.
"We're going to have big Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve parties with drinks offers," she said.
"We're also looking at drum and bass nights to give people something different."
But despite all the bright lights, new sounds and trendy décor can Tremor really survive Salisbury's shaky club scene?
"We're very optimistic," Claire says.
"We think Salisbury wanted something new - lots of the people we spoke to at the weekend said they would be making it a regular thing.
"When Po Na Na closed we had the opportunity to take it on and we just went for it.
"It's been a lot of hard work but we've had a great reaction so far and we're sure it will work out."
Tremor at 4a Endless Street is open on Thursday (£4), Friday and Saturday (£6) from 10.30pm - 3am.
