From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Tuesday 4th Feb 2003.
THE alacrity with which mighty America claimed little England's allegiance over the Iraq problem points to one thing.
We were/are to be their expendable outpost, absorbing the effects of the resistance to America's seeming desire to dictate to the world.
I do not for one moment disagree with any desire to have no effects on war on their land; I do repudiate their right to expect that we should pay their price as they pursue such policies.
It should be noticed that those voices most vociferous in belligerance appear to belong to people too young to have been personally involved in real warfare, certainly as troops.
Ultimately it will have to come to talk; the only purpose of war is to make the talking easier to one side.
Right or wrong does not come into it.
