James Breams With Delight!

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Tuesday 25th Jun 2002.

James Griffiths proved a real chip off the old block after landing a monster bream from Claydon Park Fisheries.

The Lechlade 12-year-old showed grandad Ian the way with an 8lb 2oz bream taken on an 8mm trout pellet.

Not to be outdone, Ian landed a beautiful 27lb 4oz carp using a 13mm halibut pellet fished over a mixture of particles and trout pellet.

THE river season got off to a flying start with some really good reports from anglers fishing our River Thames and the Bristol Avon.

The large amount of rain at the start of June has freshened up the rivers and the colour is perfect for catching fish.

Haydon Street anglers has a great time in their Harold Trinder Memorial at Hannington.

The best attended Haydon Street match for some seasons, a 25-angler entry caught a mixed variety of fish mainly on the stick float.

Winner Alan Hambridge used this method to good effect to take a fine bag of chub for an 18lb 4oz catch. Man of the match, however, was Phil McKay who took a mainly roach bag from a shallow swim for a fine 15lb 8oz catch.

John Sainsbury was third with 11lb 2oz just ahead of fourth-placed Terry Ayres with 10lb 12oz.

Clover fished their latest match at Shearwater and results were good with anglers catching on the method feeder. Bill Davis won with 54lb 8oz ahead of Ricky Spiteri 53lb 11oz and Andy Bright (40-15-0).

In the old Codgers match at Ivy House one of the oldest Codgers, Robin Cope, won with a 36-1-0 carp bag from Mick Mills (20lb). Ray Williams 17-12-0 and John Read 16-12-0.

Weights were low in the BCA AC match on the River Cole where Mick Flyn needed only 1-10-0 to win, ahead of Graham Smith and Mel Mullen who tied for second with 1-8-0. Bryan Poynter was fourth with 1-5-0.

Only two anglers caught tench in Highworth's Tench Cup at Buscot Park. Ken Jefferies took two for a winning 4-3-0 catch ahead of the one fish taken by Nigel Holder that weighed 1-2-0.

In the Peatmoor Juniors v Liden Juniors match at Peatmoor, Liden weighed in 19lb 1oz and Peatmoor weighed in 8lb 11oz. Top individual was Mathew Dickens of Liden with 7lb 4oz including a tench of 3lb 1oz. Runner up with 5lb 14oz was Martyn Howard of Peatmoor and in third place with 3lb 14oz was Simon Pearce of Liden. In joint fourth place with 2lb 15 oz were Kevin Covey and Glen Picton, both Liden.
