Town to gain from extra train services

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Friday 17th May 2002.

MORE trains will stop at Chippenham when First Great Western launches its summer timetable.

The firm will run more than 200 services each weekday between London Paddington, the south west and Wales.

That is several more than last summer and 40 per cent up on the figure seven years ago.

The firm's services development manager, David Mathieson, said: "We've been able to introduce these extra and extended services as we start to introduce our new £80 million fleet of Adelante trains.

"It means customers can take advantage of a much better timetable, both in the journey options available to them and the reliability of our services."

The Adelante fleet, currently being introduced, is intended to update First Great Western's fleet to better standards of comfort, reliability and safety.

The new summer timetable runs from June 2 to September 28.

First Great Western says it has designed its summer timetable with both leisure and business customers in mind, providing additional flexibility.

Full details of the new timetable are available through National Rail Enquiries on (08457) 484950 or www.nationalrail.co.uk

Information is also available at stations.
