MARY Dolman and Tim Faulkener, licensees of the Tipsy Toad pub in Bulkington near Devizes, are on tenterhooks after being told they had made it to the final three for a prestigious national award.
The pub, which the couple took over three-and-a-half years ago, has been shortlisted in the Free House of the Year 2002 competition organised by drinks industry newspaper, the Morning Advertiser.
They will find out if they have won when they attend a glittering gala evening at the Savoy Hotel in London on March 20.
Initially, they had to outline to a panel of judges how they had revived the village pub building a new skittle alley, a games room, a beautiful garden and a conservatory.
Mr Faulkener said: "Many organisations and clubs use the pub as their headquarters and during the foot and mouth crisis, farmers held their meetings here because they weren't allowed to move around each other's farms."
The couple says that most villagers from Bulkington and from neighbouring Keevil support the pub, coming to enjoy a drink and a chat or to take advantage of the home-cooked food.
It also attracts visitors who have read about it on its own website, www.tipsytoad.co.uk.
