Firm plans to take on staff

Direct media specialist, Equi-Media is celebrating its second year of trading with plans to increase the number of staff it employs in Swindon and open a new office in London.

The company, based at Kembrey Park in Swindon, had a turnover of £1.6 million in its second year, 69 per cent up on last year.

It was set up by Andrew and Louise Burgess and is currently responsible for planning £10 million in media spend and expects this to increase by more than £15 million by next year.

Mr Burgess, managing director, said: "To date we have been very successful and our plans for year three are just as ambitious.

"We are projecting a growth of more than 100 per cent for our third celebration which will result in a turnover in excess of £4 million.

"We also plan to increase the number of staff here at Swindon and open an office in London."

Equi-Media plans and devises media campaigns on behalf of regional and national clients, via direct mail, the internet, newspapers and magazines.

The company's key selling point is that it tracks and measures all campaigns for their effectiveness in targeting consumers.

It currently employs eight people and recent business wins mean that it is looking to employ two more and anticipates major expansion which allow it to double its workforce as the company expands its operations, including opening offices in London later this year.

Its customers include Eclipse Holidays, Firstplus Financial Group (part of The Woolwich), Peoples Choice, ensure Insurance (The Halifax's Insurance company) and Western Provident Association.

Mr Burgess, was born in Australia, and his first job in the UK brought him to the Cotswolds where he worked as a reporter on the Wiltshire & Gloucestershire Standard.

He then moved into radio, and was part of the team which set up Wiltshire Radio (now GWR and later moved to London to work in direct marketing .

Two years ago he returned to Swindon to set-up Equi-Media.
