Baby was left at home alone, says neighbour

From the Amesbury Journal, first published Thursday 7th Mar 2002.

ANGELA Cannings repeatedly left her last baby unattended while she visited a neighbour in Waterloo Road, Salisbury.

Registered nurse Jane Aldous told the ongoing trial at Winchester Crown Court that she and Cannings struck up a casual friendship while they were living near each other. They would chat if they happened to meet in the street and pay occasional social calls to each other's homes.

She recalled several occasions on which Angela Cannings had called at her house, leaving baby Matthew at home alone.

Angela Cannings denies murdering two of her babies.

The case continues.
