Festival takes a southerly direction

From the Amesbury Journal, first published Thursday 21st Mar 2002.

EDWINA Currie, TV gardeners, Michael Nyman and starry classical music-makers are among the artists and performers who will make Salisbury Festival extra-special this year.

Trevor Davies, director of the festival, unveiled the programme at Salisbury Guildhall on Tuesday.

This is the hottest festival in years, he promised, as he revealed a Look South theme drawing performers from Africa, Australia, Cuba and India to Salisbury for the May 24-June 9 event.

The festival also marks the golden jubilee in style, with spectacular concerts and fireworks, and celebrates England, with music from the eras of Queen Elizabeth I and II.

Festival hallmarks of fun and unusual events are included, ranging from circus to French mime artists and Tibetan monks to vaudeville style.
