Mother is set on play centre

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Thursday 21st Mar 2002.

MOTHER of two Sharon Taylor is waiting to find out this week if her proposals to turn an empty industrial unit into an indoor soft play centre have been approved by planners.

Mrs Taylor, from Compton Bassett, has two sons, Jack, eight, and two year-old Joe, and knows how popular soft play is.

But with the closest facility in Melksham, Mrs Taylor thinks a soft play centre would be popular in Calne.

"This is something Calne hasn't got and there are limited leisure facilities here for the nought to 10 age group."

Mrs Taylor, who hopes to be able to take her children to work with her if the planning application is successful, has been looking into the idea for almost two years.

Responses from local parents have been positive and she is confident the facility would be well used.

The play centre, on the Porte Marsh Industrial Estate, would offer soft play shapes, a ball pool and bouncy castle, as well as a café area for mums and dads to have a cup of tea and a chat.

"I'm hoping to hear if we've got the go ahead this week, and if we have, I'd definitely like to be up and running before the summer holidays," said Mrs Taylor.

"Calne is developing and there are a lot of children here now, so it is a shame they have to go out of town to Boomerang in Melksham when they could have a similar facility here."
