THE Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service is holding a seminar at the Milford Hall Hotel, Salisbury, on March 13 to help employers of small and medium-sized companies.
The Good Practice seminar aims to help companies put into place written terms and conditions of employment, discipline and grievance procedures.
Last year ACAS, an independent statutory body, received 64,394 calls to its Bristol helpline and 5,586 claims were made to employment tribunals in the south-west.
The majority of the calls related to problems with contracts of employment and the lack, or non-use, of disciplinary procedures.
ACAS says that many companies, especially new or small ones, spend a lot of time getting their business up and running, or keeping it running, and do not have time to acknowledge their responsibilities under the employment laws for their employees.
The seminar starts at 9.15am and finishes at 1pm with a buffet lunch.
To book a place, call ACAS on 01179 469 523.
