Michael Owen, surface engineering services manager of Deloro Stellite in Cheney Manor, Swindon, has received the prestigious British Safety Council Diploma in Safety Management.
Mr Owen, from Furze Close, Swindon, was presented with his award at a ceremony in Lon-don.
The Council's director general, David Ballard, said: "Good safety is good business and can save firms hundreds of thousands of pounds.
"In achieving the Diploma in Safety Management, Mr Owen has shown a big commitment to improving health and safety in the workplace.
"Proper training is vital for people at all levels of a company, as accidents and illnesses at work cost this country up to £18 billion every year."
Many company directors and managers are unaware of how big the savings from good safety management can be.
The Baker Group in Northamptonshire has seen its insurance premiums drop from £400,000 to £150,000 in just three years and Norwich City Council's City Works department is saving £60,000 a year because of their good safety records.
The Diploma is an internationally recognised qualification, which provides domain knowledge for the National Vocational Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety Practice.
Delegates study safety law, communications, advanced safety management, occupational health and hygiene and total loss control (risk management). They must pass an exam in order to gain a Diploma.
