From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Tuesday 29th Oct 2002.
Re the Evening Advertiser report last Thursday entitled "Churchill trails Brunel's wake".
I thought Jeremy Clarkson's programme on BBC2 last Tuesday night was outstanding, putting the case for "The Greatest Briton" the genius of Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-59).
But what a disappointment that the great Swindon railway works didn't even get a mention, much of which is still standing to this day in the form of The Great Western Designer Outlet Village and the superb railway museum, Steam.
So in my book, the Greatest Britons on television are Fred Dibnah... and now Jeremy Clarkson.

PS I can strongly recommend a wonderful day out to visit the SS Great Britain, the world's first great ocean liner, in Bristol.
