Lord Bath's son wanted by court

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Friday 10th Aug 2001.

LONDON magistrates on Wednesday, August 8, issued a warrant for the arrest of Viscount Weymouth, son and heir to Lord Bath of Longleat.

The young aristocrat failed to appear at Horseferry Road Court in Westminster, following his arrest on a drink-drive charge in Bayswater last month. He was charged in his family name as Ceawlin Henry Lazlo Thynn with an address in Talbot Road, Paddington.

Lord Weymouth, 27, who stands to inherit the 10,000 acre Longleat estate and the famous safari park in Wiltshire run by his father, had been excused from an earlier hearing last month because he was away on business.

But with no explanation for his absence on Wednesday, the magistrates issued the warrant and Bench chairman Mrs Celia Buckley said he could not have bail if found and arrested.

He had been stopped and breathalysed after midnight on Friday July 13 in a Maserati car in the Bayswater Road, Paddington.

The viscount, who works in the property field, was arrested after a roadside breathalyser test. He was taken to Paddington police station.

He is charged with driving with excess alcohol in his breath.
