A NEW independent estate agents has opened in Chippenham.
Business partners Mark Richardson and Paul Hulbert bought an old rundown delicatessen in the Market Place and transformed it into an estate agents that sells only houses in Chippenham and the surrounding villages.
Before they renovated the building, it had lain empty for two years.
Both men, who have been in the business for more than 30 years between them, used to work together in the building when it belonged to Allen and Harris in the late 80s.
Allen and Harris later moved to a bigger building across the Market Place.
Mr Hulbert, 37, said they had invested in the latest computer technology to allow them to give would-be buyers virtual tours of properties and provide them with floor plans.
Mr Richardson said: "When we decided to open we did some market research and there are ten or 11 big chain estate agents in Chippenham."
"More and more these days people like to deal with someone who has a vested interest in what they are doing and I think the personal touch makes a difference."
Mr Hulbert said: "We have both given up good jobs to take this on together and it is a big venture.
"The computers do all the admin for us so we can spend our time just selling houses and dealing with customers.
"It's like going back to the roots of the job really."
Hulbert and Richardson's motto is In Chippenham for Chippenham and it will deal solely in residential sales with no lettings or financial services.
