Crossing campaigns successful

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Thursday 19th Jul 2001.

SCHOOLCHILDREN who have been campaigning for better crossings on their routes to school are to get their wish.

The county council's list of highway projects for the coming year include crossings in Frome Road, Trowbridge, and Bath Road, Bradford on Avon.

Pupils at Clarendon and Christchurch schools lobbied for better road safety measures in both places.

Traffic calming in Holt and along The Ham in Westbury is also included in the list.

Ham residents have been promised measures to slow down the increased traffic since the Hawkeridge link road opened.

Alterations to the West Midland Farmers roundabout on the A350 at Melksham, the Stoney Gutter crossroads between West Ashton and Semington and the bend on the A363 east of Wingfield are also planned.

County councillors will meet next week to discuss speed limits in several Wiltshire villages.
