Teen's trauma after mugging

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Thursday 3rd May 2001.

TRAUMATISED teenager David Pritchard says he cried himself to sleep after two men mugged him on the night of Saturday April 28.

The 17-year-old was walking through Clifton Close on his way to the Safeway garage in Hungerdown Lane when a man grabbed him from behind. A second man grabbed a wallet, containing David's week's wages, from his pocket.

David struggled but was held back and when he turned to have a look at the second robber he had his face repeatedly pushed away.

"I was very shaken and I cried myself to sleep that night," said David, who managed to catch a glimpse of the attacker.

"He didn't look like a thug. They pushed me to the ground and ran off down Hungerdown Lane."

He said he was left with pain in his arms following the attack.

David, of Redland, works part-time at the West Cornwall Pasty Company in High Street, and has been feeling on edge since the attack.

Police have issued an urgent appeal for witnesses following the attac.

The man David saw is described as black, with spiky hair and wearing a white shirt, a blue jacket and smart trousers and shoes and aged in his twenties or thirties. Anyone with information is asked to contact WPC Sheri Wright on (01249) 654455.
