Candle firm looks to Warminster

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Friday 23rd Mar 2001.

A CANDLE manufacturer is hoping to open a business at Crusader Park, in Bath Road, Warminster.

Arco, which is currently based in Mere, expects the move to Warminster will create more business and more jobs.

Partner Roger Biles said: "It is very early stages, but a move like this will be good for the expansion of the company."

The company produces candles for a number of High Street shops including Laura Ashley, Debenhams and Boots the Chemist. It wants to make and sell candles from its new premises and open a visitor centre.

Mr Biles said: "The factory shop is a means of disposing of the seconds that are a result of the manufacturing process and the visitor centre is designed to create interest in candle-making."

There are currently 13 full-time staff and if the move goes ahead, it is hoped to create a further six to 10 full-time jobs.

A planning application for the building, which will provide a shop, showroom, staff canteen and offices, was expected to be approved last night by West Wiltshire District Council's southern area committee.

A spokesman for Warminster Civic Trust said the trust was delighted at the further development of the business park but wanted to ensure the exterior wall colour and roof of the new building were in keeping with the rural setting.
