Drummers are bang on target

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Friday 23rd Mar 2001.

NEXT week is Japanese Week at the Wiltshire Music Centre in Bradford on Avon, and the first event promises to drum up enthusiasm for Japan 2001, the forthcoming British-Japanese cultural exchange.

The first concert at the centre features the phenomenal taiko drummers, Mugenkyo.

The band, Europe's foremost exponents of the art of taiko drumming, have studied with taiko experts in Japan, and combine the disciplines of the taiko tradition with a European twist, giving their performances international appeal. The concert, on Tuesday, should be one of the high points of the spring/summer concert series at the centre.

The concert is followed on March 30 by East Meets West, in which St Laurence School in Bradford and Swindon Music Centre are joining forces to host young musicians and dancers from Japan. The school's choir will be joined by Kurume Shinai Jogakuin High School Choir, Chizu Norin High School Dance Group and Ohyu Gakuen High School Koto Group.

For tickets for both events, call (01225) 860100.
