Tea set makers drop a clanger over pictures

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Friday 23rd Feb 2001.

DESIGNS for a unique Bradford on Avon tea set have been altered after residents spotted the pictures were not all they appeared.

A leaflet drop by Decor Art Creations Ltd, of Canterbury, offered Bradfordians the chance to buy a set of six porcelain cups, saucers and cake plates featuring six designs from around the town.

Among the designs was "Kingston House" which eagle-eyed residents spotted was actually a drawing of The Hall, and a picture of the "Town Hall", now St Thomas More Catholic Church.

Decor Arts manager Jane Powell said this kind of problem sometimes arose and the labels on the two plates had now been changed.

She said: "The plates are not made when the leaflets go out and we have changed them now.

"It could have been that we used old drawings and the place names have changed. It is not a problem to change the descriptions at this stage."

The line drawings which appear on the plates are produced using old photographs and postcards, or pictures taken by the firm's own photographers.

The brochure promised Bradfordians they would own a unique collection.

Decor Art Creations' leaflet said: "In a nutshell, you will own the most original porcelain ever designed for Bradford on Avon. You can rest assured of that."

People who take up the offer to buy the six-piece sets, which cost £19.95 each, will receive a certificate of authenticity guaranteeing no more than 100 complete series will be sold.

The other four designs in the series show two views of Holy Trinity Church, Christ Church and the Saxon Church.

In the last six years Decor Art Creations has produced porcelain tea sets for hundreds of towns across Britain.
