YOU know how it is you go to the orphanage to get a little brother for your only son. And you come back with a mouse.
But what a mouse. This little rodent is snowy white, dresses immaculately, and talks.
Stuart Little (U) was a huge hit in the US and its mix of comedy and cutesy charm should make it a big success over here.
It's happily married couple Mr and Mrs Little (Hugh Laurie and Geena Davis) who yearn for a new addition to the family, particularly as a companion for their son George (Jonathan Lipnicki).
And of course they bring home Stuart or Stoo-urt as this New York family insists on calling him. Viewed indignantly at first by George, the youngster soon comes to adore him as one of the family.
Yes, it is as treacly as it sounds. This homily to American family life is for those with a very sweet tooth, and Davis and Laurie rather overplay their parts as the loving parents.
But there are some fun moments in the film, supplied mainly by the family's pet cat, who struggles to come to terms with the fact that he is also the mouse's pet too.
And Stuart has a likeable charm, thanks in no small part to the fact that his voice is supplied by Michael J Fox.
One for the family and mouse lovers: 6 out of 10.
